I Have This Disorder Where...

Whenever there is a big undertaking that someone needs to volunteer for, my hand shoots into the air faster than anything NASA has yet created. They should have support groups for people like me.

Hi, my name is Crystal Case and I volunteer before I think. So, here I go again.

Rat-O-Matic is a brand new band.

New means they have almost no history to catch up on. It means, if I remain vigilant, I can capture everything this band goes through from the beginning, something I have no hope of ever doing for the Secretions. So far they've only had two shows, both of which I've written about and taken photos of. I'll post these asap, retro-dated to the appropriate day.

So, welcome to the official Rat-O-Matic ezine.

Gearhead Records One Year Anniversary

A year ago, Gearhead Record store opened in Woodland, California. They had a huge all day music festival with bands from the area, including the Secretions. The Secretions were asked back to play the one year anniversary party, but unfortunately Dan was on tour in Europe. Luckily, Rat-O-Matic was there to fill the void.

Although they had already played a show together as a Ramones cover band, this was still technically their first show.

The weather couldn't decide whether to rain or shine, so the attendance was pretty sparse. A couple of Secretins showed up, as well as members of bands that were due to go on later.

I don't attend Rat-O-Matic practices and hadn't heard any of the songs, so I had no idea what to expect. They have all the energy of a good pop punk band with more of a hardcore sound. Mattomatic busted out some really beautiful guitar bits that added some depth and melody. Overall, the band looked like they had a good time, and I know the crowd enjoyed them.

Rat-O-Matic on Punknews.org

Barely one show under their belt and Rat-O-Matic has already made it onto punknews.org! They appeared in this blurb about the upcoming Gearhead Records show.

"This Saturday, November 8th Gearhead Records will host a fundraiser and one year anniversary party at their boutique record and clothing store Gearhead Records and Stuff in Woodland, CA. The free event will run from noon until 7 PM, with money from raffles and food sales to benefit the Sexual and Domestic Violence Shelter in Woodland.

The event will feature local punk, country and rock'n'roll bands like Mickie Rat's Rat-O-Matic, the Pizzas, the Bathtub Gins, Rat Damage, the Bottom Dwellers, the Jim Rowdy Shot and local favorites The Losin' Streaks."

Congrats!

Rat-O-Matic's Debut...as the Ramones!

How many bands get to play Sacramento's biggest Halloween event, Dead Rockstars at Old Ironsides, as their first gig? Not many. Rat-O-Matic made it onto the bill as the Ramones.

The band probably would have been nervous if everyone hadn't been so hammered by the time they were due on stage.

Mickie Rat (dressed as Spike from Buffy but pretty much just looking like himself), Mattomatic (zombie John Belushi), and Matt McCool (undead drummer from hell) raced through their three chord set without stopping to breath in signature Ramones style. Mattomatic even busted his hand open and bled all over his guitar.

The crowd, most of who had been dying to see "Mickie Rat's new project," went crazy pogoing and dancing and singing along. Ask anyone who wasn't blacked out and they'll tell you what a blast it was!
